Behringer TD-3 review

BEHRINGER TD-3 Review, tutorial and comparison to TB-303, RE-303 and x0xb0x

Behringer TD-3 is a clone (with added features) of Roland’s TB-303, a synth that was originally designed to mimic bass guitars, failed commercially, but despite that has now become one of the most iconic mono synths, core to acid music but used in other genres as well.

In this video I’ll show you what the Behringer TD-3 can do, and compare it to an original TB-303 as well as the RE-303, a replica by DIN SYNC, and XOXBOX, a souped up open source clone:

  1. I have a tb-303 and I will be getting a td-3 because it sounds amazing and nothing like hearing two play off each other in real time..great review!

  2. Hi do you know if the TD-3 send CC ?
Coz I bought couple weeks ago the TT 303 from cyclone analogic which it doesn’t send any CC.
And I think that is kind of shame, specially if I want to control it from my DT.
Thank u for your instructive vid.

    1. Thanks! It doesn’t have CV inputs, but it does support MIDI, so it should work that way, though I’ve not tried it specifically with the SQ-1

      1. Do you think you can control Accent and Slide with an external sequencer?

I have a beatstep pro which can send Gate and Velocity, I thought maybe the max Gate could send a “slide” message and the accent would be triggered at a certain Velocity value.

Thank you for your videos 🙂

        1. Thanks! I didn’t test this thoroughly but yes velocity above 64 is accent and playing legato (overlapping notes) should slide.

  3. Thanks so much for the detailed overview. A quick question (that may be relevant to only me) about the”random” feature: if you externally sequence just notes via MIDI (say from a rudimentary sequencer), can the TD-3 randomize accents and slides to that pattern on the fly?

    1. accent yes, with velocity. Slide I don’t know, I thought was like the mam (overlaping notes) but doesn’t work in here

  4. Hi

Isnt there a way tho change clock source without SynthTool? I mean direct from the unit?
I can see Int, Midi, USB on the keyboard!

    1. I’m sure there is… please check the manual or contact B’s support – I’ve moved on to other topics and I don’t recall how to change it – sorry

  5. Great review as always. Got my yellow version coming Monday 🎛😊

Please can you tell me what you said at the end of the review..Acid ?

    ✌🏽♥️
