The new Gen 2 MPC One and MPC Key 37 from Akai have got the same new processor as the Live 3 and MPC XL, which means you can run more plugins and audio tracks simultaneously, plus more RAM and storage than the previous generation and better USB-C capabilities than any other MPC.
In this video, I take a detailed look at them compared with the first generation to see whether they’re worth the upgrade, cover the considerations when choosing between the MPC One and MPC Key 37, and discuss what’s new in MPC OS 3.9—including the pretty wild oscillator update to drums and keygroups, which I think totally changes the game for what an MPC can do.
Before you accuse me of hyping up the new gear, this new 3.9 feature works very well on older first-generation MPCs too and is a totally free firmware update. Here goes!
