DFAM (Drummer From Another Mother) is the second semi-modular Moog are releasing in a compact, either standalone or 60hp eurorack form factor, following the Mother-32, and while they may look very similar, they’re actually very different animals. I already did an in-depth review of the Mother-32 (here’s a link to it: https://youtu.be/F0ro6w5QFAo) – so in this clip I focus more on a review of DFAM, but along the way comparing it to Mother-32, so that by the time it’s over, you’ll have a pretty good idea of how both synths work, and why even though they look the same, the end result gives each itsRead More →

The Disting has an ever expanding library of onboard modules or algorithms that can do very different things – currently about 80 but probably more by the time you watch this, all embodied in a 4HP module. If you like modules that are clearly labelled knob per function, the Disting is not for you, but if you’re in a pinch for a module that’s missing from your setup, it’s more than likely that the multifunction Disting from Expert Sleepers has a version of it – ranging from oscillators, envelope generators and LFO’s all to way to audio recording, sample playback, physical modeling and effects.Read More →

I’d love to hear from you! Please mail me at: ziv (at) loopopmusic (dot) com Here’s some background about this site and its companion YouTube channel. What drove me to open this site and channel is my deep appreciation for others sharing their knowledge online, and the need to reciprocate in kind. I do enjoy digging deep into what a piece of electronic music gear can do – and learning by having someone show you is the best way to do that, especially considering cryptic manuals some manufacturers create. It almost goes without saying that aside from having someone teach you in person, YouTube isRead More →

If you’ve seen clips of Elise Trouw live looping, aside from being an amazing artist, you’ve seen her effortlessly live loop without touching a looper. All she does is play her instruments and sing, and the parts she plays loop, stop looping and then come back in again automatically at just the right times. I’ve seen comments to her clip saying it’s fake – that someone’s pressing looper buttons for her, or that it’s all just done in post, but that’s not the case. Live looping without touching a pedal is very possible, and in this clip I show three ways to do it. TheRead More →

While walking the halls at NAMM 2018 I met the team from Genki and was very impressed by their WAVE product. They sent me one and this is my review: More about their IndieGoGo campaign here: http://bit.ly/WaveOnIndieGoGo * Note – I’m not affiliated with them in any way… crowdfunding campaigns can be risky though to me this one looks legit to me Interested in JAZZ ME? Check it out here (note: you need Max for Live): http://bit.ly/jazzme2 The ring controller I got is a prototype and doesn’t look like the final product, but regardless works extremely well and has the battery life they advertise. Here’s what this clip is about: Going modular is a lot of fun but can get very expensive, very fast. But there’s a way put together a hybrid modular synth in a gradual, focused way, by only getting the modules you need in hardware form, and integrating others using software. After experimenting a lot with creating a hybrid VCV/Eurorack – I can say it works really nicely. If anyone asks me what’s my one must have Eurorack module, it’s definitely one which will let you bridge between virtual modules and real ones. In this video I review the ES-8 from Expert Sleepers and the 8ARead More →
